Midway

We spent this past weekend in Midway, courtesy of Mom Frost. I had heard many things about this little, Switzerland-esque town, but I had never been. It proved to be a fun experience. Wow. I sound like I am writing a paper. Anyway.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon after picking up a yummy lunch from Harmons (yes, the grocery store. It was good.) and buying the “last box of Girl Scout Samoas in the county.” I don’t know if that sales pitch was true, but we fell for it, and it was worth it. We met up with Stephen and Meghan, who had stayed there the night before, and made our way out to the Crater.

It is literally a big crater that is naturally filled with mineral-rich water. You can swim there (for only $16!) and get your scuba diving certification. The water was warm, it smelled fresh, and I thought it was pretty cool. Maybe I’ll swim there someday. Oh, and the crater was not formed by a meteor from outer space; I asked.

Then we went on a little caravan through Midway to see the beautiful buildings. I don’t know if they actually look like anything you’d find in Switzerland (Annie and Steve, you can weigh in on that), but they were pretty nonetheless.

We bought some fairly underwhelming pastries from a little shop, but the cakes there were pretty cool. Here is what we called the Dr. Seuss or Tim Burton cake:

I’m thinking that will be Laurie Jayne’s wedding cake. If she wants.

Dane and baby Molly fell asleep in the pastry shop. I thought their bright colored carseat covers fit in well with the décor.

Then we ate our pastries by the outdoor ice skating rink that no longer has any ice. Joel called it “the day we didn’t go ice skating.” Here are some fun shots of the guys playing with Lauren.

Then, we took Dane swimming for the first time. The pool was quite cold and the hot tub was quite hot, but I enjoyed snuggling with my sweet little boy in the water.

Haha, I love his little belly.

Then we said goodbye to Stephen and Meghan and enjoyed the fireplace while we watched Enchanted. Then we woke up the next morning to four inches of snow. At the end of March. I think we packed a lot of fun stuff in. We really enjoyed the trip.

And now, as if you hadn’t seen enough pictures, I would like to show off Dane in a little photo essay I will call “Strong Boy.”

This particular piece is called “Blue Steel.”

You can see his amazing strength as his cousin Lauren tries to push him down.

This is “Huckleberry Finn.”

And this is “Bridge Over Ugly Carpet”

Thanks for putting up with all of my pictures. I hope they all loaded alright for you.

P.S. I interviewed for a job today. I am nervous, not just about whether or not I get the job but also about if I’m ready to leave Dane for even 10 hours a week. We’ll see.

Wow what a fun trip- I don't think I've ever been there but it looks cute. What fun cakes too. Those were the best pictures! I love the ice-skating ones and Dane's push-ups. He is a strong boy!

Dane is such a stud! Those are some great pictures. I wonder how long those cakes sit in the store before someone buys them...

Yes, Ami, I will take that cake for my weddin'. Stat.

P.S. I like Dane in those overalls. And as a bridge over ugly carpet. Bwahaha!

P.P.S. Job? Do tell.

What a fun weekend. You're so lucky to live close to family! I love Dane. He is getting too big. I'm shocked to see him doing the bridge - isn't he still a newborn?

that first picture is really cool, it looks like a asteroid in outerspace...and that interests me...

The "Swiss" building looks much newer than anything here, but it's probably as Swiss as you'll find in the New World.

Those push-up shots are amazing! I've never seen a little one do that before!
