See You Soon

Joel and I somehow got roped into being in our Stake musical. (“Somehow” means I thought Joel would enjoy being in it but I wasn’t planning on it because of Dane but then I went with Joel to the first rehearsal and they were low on people and I got cast in a part.) It is a pretty ridiculous play. The Phantom of the Opry. That’s right. The Opry. Joel is Junior Hamster, the sheriff, and I am Flufferduff Chinstrap, a patron of the arts. Anyway, the performances are this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and we are rehearsing all week. It will be tiring, and Dane’s schedule will be completely thrown off. So I won’t update again until it’s over. But when it is, I will be sure to regale you with pictures of our costumes and tales of the play’s overall ridiculousness. One good thing: I am going to wear fake eyelashes. I am more excited than I should be about this. I’ve always secretly wanted to wear fake eyelashes. My Asian genetics have been good to me, but they only provided me with little stubs of eyelashes. So. Prepare yourself for Ami with big eyes. Heehee.

And here are a couple of pictures of Dane. The weather has been kind of weird in that it looks really nice outside but it is actually pretty cold. But I took a few spring pictures of Dane even though it’s colder than it oughta be in April.

Smiles by the daffodil.

Pensive.

Happy boy. He has been so smiley lately. He's such a sweet guy.

Pooping. (He wasn’t really, but it made me laugh).

Springtime

So, howsabout I actually update my blog?

After leaving everyone in suspense about my job interview, I am pleased to report that I got the job. I will be working ten hours a week, mostly working with kids and running groups. I like groups. They are fun. I will probably start out with a group of domestic violence perpetrators. I’ve never worked with this demographic before, but I am sure it will be interesting. The office is really flexible and is fine with me bringing Dane to meetings and things during the day. So that works out really well. I am excited to get started. I am also stressed. Dane had a fever all weekend, so I took him to the doctor this morning. She said he caught the adenovirus and will likely have a fever for three or four more days. That’s a long time. It’s just hard to be starting a new job and have a sick baby at the same time. But that’s how it is. I’m am grateful that they are flexible with me.

We spent a lot of time this weekend with Kenji. Since the weather was so nice on Saturday, we spent some time playing in the park. Kenji is our local Frisbee expert, so he gave us some pointers on how to not throw like idiots.

Here is a nice action shot of Joel

While we were playing I noticed this boy on the swings by himself. He seemed to really want to play with us, so we invited him to join us. Although he had been watching us quietly, as soon as he joined our group, he started talking smack like crazy. Anytime any of us would even move, he’d say, “You guys are weak,” or “You think you got game, sucka?” He was pretty hilarious. He eventually left to go back home, but he was fun to include in our game for a while.

I also got a nice little photo shoot with Dane.

He is quite the thumb sucker.

This is the only smile I could get out of him. Yes, I took him out with a fever. It was only 99 degrees at the time, and I thought the outdoors might do him good. Maybe I’m a bad mom.

Haha, he’s so cute. I hope he feels better soon.

Midway

We spent this past weekend in Midway, courtesy of Mom Frost. I had heard many things about this little, Switzerland-esque town, but I had never been. It proved to be a fun experience. Wow. I sound like I am writing a paper. Anyway.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon after picking up a yummy lunch from Harmons (yes, the grocery store. It was good.) and buying the “last box of Girl Scout Samoas in the county.” I don’t know if that sales pitch was true, but we fell for it, and it was worth it. We met up with Stephen and Meghan, who had stayed there the night before, and made our way out to the Crater.

It is literally a big crater that is naturally filled with mineral-rich water. You can swim there (for only $16!) and get your scuba diving certification. The water was warm, it smelled fresh, and I thought it was pretty cool. Maybe I’ll swim there someday. Oh, and the crater was not formed by a meteor from outer space; I asked.

Then we went on a little caravan through Midway to see the beautiful buildings. I don’t know if they actually look like anything you’d find in Switzerland (Annie and Steve, you can weigh in on that), but they were pretty nonetheless.

We bought some fairly underwhelming pastries from a little shop, but the cakes there were pretty cool. Here is what we called the Dr. Seuss or Tim Burton cake:

I’m thinking that will be Laurie Jayne’s wedding cake. If she wants.

Dane and baby Molly fell asleep in the pastry shop. I thought their bright colored carseat covers fit in well with the décor.

Then we ate our pastries by the outdoor ice skating rink that no longer has any ice. Joel called it “the day we didn’t go ice skating.” Here are some fun shots of the guys playing with Lauren.

Then, we took Dane swimming for the first time. The pool was quite cold and the hot tub was quite hot, but I enjoyed snuggling with my sweet little boy in the water.

Haha, I love his little belly.

Then we said goodbye to Stephen and Meghan and enjoyed the fireplace while we watched Enchanted. Then we woke up the next morning to four inches of snow. At the end of March. I think we packed a lot of fun stuff in. We really enjoyed the trip.

And now, as if you hadn’t seen enough pictures, I would like to show off Dane in a little photo essay I will call “Strong Boy.”

This particular piece is called “Blue Steel.”

You can see his amazing strength as his cousin Lauren tries to push him down.

This is “Huckleberry Finn.”

And this is “Bridge Over Ugly Carpet”

Thanks for putting up with all of my pictures. I hope they all loaded alright for you.

P.S. I interviewed for a job today. I am nervous, not just about whether or not I get the job but also about if I’m ready to leave Dane for even 10 hours a week. We’ll see.
